The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie gave fans who sat through the credits a surprise with the reveal of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, and a probable tease for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
No video game franchise has fans that are more dedicated and excitable than Sonic the Hedgehog. Even though film adaptations of popular games have been met with grassroots excitement, none have matched the enthusiasm surrounding the Sonic movies. Nor has any other franchise been able to translate that excitement into cross-media IP status the way Sonic has.
The box office success of the films will ultimately see these movies get made until the films are no longer highly profitable. Thankfully for fans, the Sonic game franchise has no shortage of characters and storylines that can be converted to film. Case and point, the new characters that make a shock cameo at the end of the latest film.
Fan footage shows Amy appearing in one of Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s post-credits scene.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 reportedly has multiple post-credits scenes that will keep fans on their seats until the very end of the movie’s runtime. The most notable part of them, judging from apparent fan footage of a Spanish-language screening, is the reveal of Amy. This was posted across social media.
The clip sees Sonic surrounded by Metal Sonics, seemingly in danger. A cloaked figure emerges from the shadows to help him, destroying most of the Metal Sonics before finishing off the last one with a downward slam from a massive hammer. The person then removes their hood, revealing themselves to be Amy Rose.
Amy has long been one of the most popular members of the cast alongside the original crew of playable characters and would be a welcome addition to Sonic the Hedgehog 3.Â
The film is set to be action-packed, drawing inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2 and the Shadow the Hedgehog video games. While Amy factors heavily into several of the games, fans shouldn’t expect to see much of her. Similar to how Shadow was teased at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and now stands as the main antagonist of the third film, Amy’s arrival isn’t going to be explored heavily.
That would likely come in a possible fourth film, though fans shouldn’t expect this to come out any time soon. The only real hope for seeing more Amy before then would be a possible spin-off series. Knuckles received this treatment but Amy would arguably be a better fit.
Regardless, fans won’t have to wait long to see her in action. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theatres on December 20, 2024.
