Destiny unbanned on Twitch after 4 years, re-suspended within minutes
Destiny unbanned on Twitch after 4 years, re-suspended within minutes
Steven “Destiny” Bonnell II’s Twitch channel was unexpectedly unbanned after roughly four years, but the livestreaming platform reinstated the indefinite ban within minutes.
Destiny was the recipient of one of the most infamous permanent bans in the history of Twitch. The political streamer is known for not mincing words, with his opinions getting him in trouble several times. Even Twitch banned him
multiple times
before ultimately suspending his channel permanently in 2022. His ban ended earlier this week, but his channel was dramatically taken down within minutes.
Dan Clancy says Destiny’s unban was accidental
On May 21, reports went viral of Destiny’s Twitch channel being reinstated after 4 years, 1 month, and 29 days. This was a surprise to fans, as it was widely assumed that Destiny was permanently banned on Twitch. Fellow streamers, such as Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker, reacted to the news critically. Piker stated that “Twitch is in the pooper anyway.”

Just a few minutes later, Destiny’s Twitch channel was once again banned.
Destiny made an X post revealing that his channel was taken down because of extreme hateful conduct, and that it would remain suspended indefinitely. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy also discussed the situation in a livestream, stating that the channel was reinstated because of “human error”. Clancy said that the mistake was quickly detected, which is why Destiny’s channel was banned instantly.
Why was Destiny banned on Twitch in 2022?
Destiny was initially banned indefinitely from Twitch for violating the platform’s hateful conduct policy. The suspension email reportedly mentioned the streamer was “promoting, encouraging, or facilitating the discrimination or denigration of a group of people based on their protected characteristics”. Twitch didn’t officially confirm the reason for the ban, but the suspension came at a time when Destiny was heavily debating transgender issues online. The streamer even stated that
he believes the ban was linked to his comments about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
Destiny was also leaning heavily into politics at the time, and there was speculation that his ban may be related to his debate with Nick Fuentes on stream. Fuentes was banned from Twitch in 2019, and creators are prohibited from streaming with banned streamers. The streamer had tried to appeal the ban multiple times, but they were rejected by Twitch.
Destiny’s 2026 ban notice states that his account will remain indefinitely suspended, but the streamer stated that he may try appealing “in 6 months”.
