Club launches Communities V1

Following X’s decision to shut down its Communities feature, Club has launched its own community hub for creators and streamers on the Kick ecosystem.

X’s Head of Product Nikita Bier very publicly announced that the platform had to close Communities and was even involved in controversy because of his reply to Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr.’s request to keep the feature. Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani had stated that they would be releasing an alternative on their new platform, Club — and the feature is now live.

Club delivers on promise to launch X Communities alternative

Club launched Communities on 28 May, announcing is as a dedicated place where fans can interact with their favorite creators. Co-founder Bijan Tehrani also made an X post revealing that the team has more updates in development ahead of Club’s full summer launch. He said the platform will give a “unique social experience built around real communities and creators.” Tehrani also stated that they want Club Communities to be “100% customizable beyond colors and banners”.

The Communities feature is straightforward, but Club added it before its full launch. This didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who praised the platform for its creator-focused approach. Bijan announced the feature after iShowSpeed expressed disappointment over X’s decision to remove Communities, even though Club was still in its infancy. This prioritization is something the community praised Club and its team for, and users are hopeful that the platform will continue to take future suggestions into account.

Despite the generally positive reaction to Club Communities, some fans have sided with X. They argued that removing Communities was a reasonable business decision if the feature was costing the platform resources while seeing limited usage. X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, stated that Communities were used by less than 0.4% of users and accounted for a disproportionate share of spam, scams, and moderation issues.

Others were more critical, arguing that X’s decision appeared to be part of a broader push toward XChat and other engagement tools. Some users accused the platform of steering creators toward alternative features in exchange for maintaining audience interaction. This criticism intensified after Club released its own alternative despite still being in the early stages of development.

It remains to be seen how well Communities will work on Club, especially as some creators have criticized the platform’s slow onboarding process. However, this is largely expected given that Club is still in an early development phase, and many users expect the experience to improve as the platform continues to roll out features and expand access.
