Will There Be Any Surprise Characters in Avengers: Doomsday?

It’s not surprising that Marvel movies are causing passionate debates online, with fans speculating about which characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which releases on December 16.
Tony Stark’s death and the OG Captain America’s retirement marked a major milestone for the MCU, but it looks like the Marvel movies are going the comics route. It’s common for variants of popular characters to appear in different universes, as a type of fan service. Avengers: Doomsday is also bringing back two of the most famous faces of the MCU — and prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket are already trading on which other characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday can feature major Marvel characters
Several actors have been confirmed to be returning to their roles or joining the Avengers: Doomsday roster to play new Marvel characters. The most notable may be the new big bad villain, Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr., known for his famous portrayal of Iron Man. Chris Evans is also set to return as Captain America, while Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, and Florence Pugh are also set to reprise their existing roles. If that isn’t enough, both The Fantastic Four and The X-Men will be joining the movie’s roster.
There is speculation that Robert Downey Jr. may not be the real face of Doctor Doom and also that Chris Evans may be playing an evil role rather than returning as Captain America. These aren’t confirmed, but fans have been explaining their theory online.
Some fans think Tobey Maguire may return as the OG Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds may reprise their Wolverine and Deadpool comedic partnership from their standalone movie, and Xochitl Gomez could make a comeback as America Chavez. Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed all of the cast, and this could be deliberate to keep the hype alive ahead of December.

Kalshi’s prediction market regarding the Avengers: Doomsday cast has a limited selection, as there are only three contracts. Traders can predict whether Jon Favreau will return as Happy Hogan, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. According to the prediction market, Happy has 53% implied probability of appearing, Captain Marvel a 51%, and the newest Spider-Man a 50% probability currently.
Polymarket, on the other hand, has a more extensive list of contracts traders can purchase depending on their predictions. Some of the notable contracts are Hugh Jackman as Wolverine with a 94% chance, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool with 93%, Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man with 91%, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange with 86%.

☑️ My Analysis
Marvel’s Avengers is known to bring a massive roster of superheroes, both existing and introducing new characters. The previous Marvel movies ended on a bittersweet note, with Tony Stark sacrificing himself to save the world. Things have changed since, as the multiverse is a crucial element in the movies. Tom Hiddleston is returning as Loki, but it’s unclear which variant, as the one seen in the mini-series now binds the timelines together. Hugh Jackman also appeared as a Wolverine variant and battled Professor Xavier’s twin sister. While it’s unconfirmed whether he and Deadpool will return, their absence would leave behind a large comedic hole
Tobey Maguire has already been seen as Spider-Man alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This is why his appearance isn’t impossible, but Marvel would have to explain how he got there, as he was sent back to his universe. A fan theory that is making the rounds is that Doomsday may introduce a multiversal traversal method. If this pans out, it could add several known and unknown Marvel characters to the Avengers: Doomsday roster. For now, we will have to wait for a trailer for more hints just two months from release.
