Rumble is one of many champions in LoL, but players are suddenly unable to play him after a newly-discovered series of exploits has caused Riot to pull him from the game.
In League of Legends, Rumble the Yordle is primarily a top laner known best for his giant fiery mech-suit. He’s considered to be a higher skill ceiling character, resulting in a lower win rate than some champions at many ranks. Yet after Noxus Season 1 began, Rumble shot from a win rate of 50.88% to 53.73% in ranked play. After some digging, League of Legends content creator Vandiril and other fans pointed out some major exploits that are giving the Yordle an unfair advantage.
Riot Games has removed Rumble from the champion pool from the time being. Here’s why Rumble was broken and if he’ll be returning to League.
Vandiril pointed out several different Rumble exploits, and the character’s ability to generate infinite Rift Heralds takes the cake.
As a summoned creature, a Rift Herald serves to help clear a lane by taking out minions, turrets, and inhibitors. Players can use the Eye of the Herald to summon the monster as an allied mercenary, and it gives kill credit to the champion who used the trinket. While not always having a major effect on the game, a Rift Herald can be a powerful ally.
However, players found that Rumble could summon not one but essentially infinite Rift Heralds. After using the Eye of the Herald, a player could charge the champion’s heat gauge to yellow and then use Overheat. This then allowed for multiple Rift Heralds to spawn for some unknown reason. Some shared gameplay revealed as many as eight such creatures storming around to the Nexus and overwhelming the opposing team. Obviously, Riot can’t tolerate such a blatant and game-changing bug.
Though smaller in effect, Rumble’s heat gauge also allowed him to exploit the triumph ruin. Found on the Precision tree, the triumph ruin allows players to get gold and extra HP after taking down an enemy. Players could repeatedly trigger this effect by using Electric Harpoon while Rumble’s heat gauge was in yellow or orange,
Riot confirmed that Rumble would return to League of Legends once the development team fixed related exploits.
In an in-game announcement, Riot confirmed that it had disabled the champion “due to a serious vulnerability” that affected the gameplay of all players involved in a match with him. The company added that its team would be working to resolve the exploits and add Rumble back to LoL. Some players have pointed out that Rumble has a long history of strange bugs and exploits and expressed their desire for a complete recoding of the champion.
Fixing Rumble is just one item on a long list of adjustments that players can expect to see. Other upcoming changes also include buffing Swain, nerfing Jayce’s tank build, and further reducing losing team champion bounties.
Hopefully, players will once again get to see Rumble grace Runeterra soon. Until then, there are plenty of old and new champions alike to hold them over.
