Does Marvel Rivals support mouse and keyboard on console?
NetEase has an update for mouse and keyboard support on Marvel Rivals, and the developer clarified its stance.
Marvel Rivals just released Season 1, but it has already proven its quality and popularity. With over ten million players within days of its debut, Marvel Rivals has quickly taken over the hero shooter genre. As with any hero shooter, players always seek ways to maximize their skills.
A chief concern that pops up for every shooter available on PC and console is control schemes. While PC supports controllers alongside mouse and keyboard, console players did not have that luxury upon launch. In a recent statement, NetEase clarified its stance on mouse and keyboard support for
Marvel Rivals
on consoles.
Can players use a mouse and keyboard in Marvel Rivals?
Players cannot use the mouse and keyboard on consoles.
Unfortunately for players looking to bring their PC skills to other platforms, NetEase has made its stance clear. The console version of Marvel Rivals does not support a mouse and keyboard, and likely won’t for the foreseeable future.
Multiple players have used devices such as mouse and keyboard adapters to circumvent the lack of support. NetEase will crack down on these players, as using third-party software to gain an advantage over other players is against NetEase’s guidelines.
Why is mouse and keyboard banned on consoles for Marvel Rivals?
Mouse and keyboard players have a distinct advantage over controller players on average in Marvel Rivals.
When fans look at the top players of Marvel Rivals currently, the bulk of them are playing on PC. The mouse and keyboard allow for more inputs, finer tuning of controls, and faster reflexes.
If a console player is caught using a mouse and keyboard on Marvel Rivals, they will receive a penalty.
These can range from a temporary suspension on a first offense, to a permanent account ban after repeated incidents. Their accounts may also be removed from leaderboards, as their efforts were assisted by the banned control scheme.
This phenomenon is far from unique to Marvel Rivals. Similar hero shooters such as Valorant also have strict rules on mouse and keyboard support for consoles. Developers are especially strict for these games because they feature active competitive scenes.
For some players, using a mouse and keyboard against console players is the equivalent of stuffing a boxing glove with coins before fighting someone.
Does Marvel Rivals support gyro controls?
Marvel Rivals currently doesn’t support gyro controls.
While NetEase has not made any specific statements, Marvel Rivals currently does not have native gyro support. The reasons are currently unknown, but some fans speculate it’s for the same reasons mouse and keyboard are banned.
While the PS5 and PC do support gyro technology, the Xbox does not. Valorant product manager Coleman “Altombre” Palm stated on
social media
that gyro support would mean PS5 players get more favored over Xbox. This would make non-gyro players struggle significantly vs players who use traditional analog controls.
On the other hand, more casual shooters like Fortnite natively support gyro technology when available. Time will tell if NetEase has plans for gyro support in Marvel Rivals’ future.
