Can using mods in Genshin Impact get you banned?

Genshin Impact’s online-only requirement may make fans wonder whether using mods for skins and other changes can get their accounts banned.

Genshin Impact, like similar gacha games, features multiple characters with unique character models and abilities. Players collect their favorite characters and roam the ever-expanding world of Teyvat to complete quests and defeat enemies. Some players may want something more out of the game, prompting them to turn toward mods.

The problem is that Genshin Impact requires players to have a constant internet connection. Thanks to this and the game’s anti-cheat, some fans may wonder whether using mods can get their accounts banned, and if there’s a workaround that lets them use mods without worry.

Will your Genshin Impact account get banned for using mods?

Players can get banned for using mods in Genshin Impact since external plug-ins and third-party software are against Genshin Impact’s terms of service. However, many players still take the risk.

Third-party mods, like those that give players unlimited Primogems or unlock certain characters, are dangerous and likely to ban the player’s account. The mods circumvent the game’s monetization, making it in the developer’s best interest to punish their use. The anti-cheat is fairly strict since miHoYo’s profit relies on players spending money to purchase in-game currency.

Some players may want to use mods strictly to improve their overall experience. This could be through an FPS improver or potato version mod, though those are against Genshin Impact’s terms of service too. Additionally, they require players to tamper with the game’s files, which can be detected fairly easily.

Cosmetic mods, on the other hand, are a different story. While they’re also against Genshin Impact’s terms of service, they’re not as likely to ban a player’s account. Some players have reported that they’ve gotten away with using cosmetic mods that don’t affect the overall game in any way thanks to third-party software that doesn’t require tweaking Genshin Impact’s game files. Naturally, sharing images with cosmetic mods installed and the player’s UID on display can prompt miHoYo to ban the player’s account.

The safer option is to not install any Genshin Impact mods, at least on official servers. One good workaround to avoid getting banned is using private servers, though they have their own issues.

Can you get banned for using mods in Genshin Impact on private servers?

Private servers give Genshin Impact players a way to use mods without much fear of getting banned.

Since private servers utilize fan-hosted servers instead of the miHoYo ones, they’re safer for mods. Any progress made in private servers isn’t carried over to the actual game, allowing players to use whatever mods they want. It’s essentially a way for players to use cheats and other things that would regularly get them banned. Private servers are also used to try out weapons or characters.

However, Genshin Impact’s private servers have a couple of safety concerns. Players must ensure the server is safe since miHoYo doesn’t regulate these servers. Using unsafe servers can give others unrestricted access to their personal information. Additionally, players must ensure they don’t display their main UID anywhere while using mods, as it may prompt miHoYo to ban their official account. Fortunately, players can host their own private servers to make things safer.

It’s important to note that private Genshin Impact servers also have other limitations before they use mods. Some quests may be broken, and the server may not be updated to the latest official update. The bright side is that they’re perfect for players who just want to reskin their favorite characters.
