These Are the Biggest Surprises From the EA Sports FC 27 Ratings Reveal

EA Sports FC 27 is coming out on 25 September, and EA has just revealed some of the top-rated players to stoke the flames of anticipation. So far, the publisher has only revealed the highest-rated players for both the men’s and women’s sides, but social media has already been ablaze with debates around some controversial ratings.
Surprises in EA Sports FC 27 ratings
The World Cup just wrapped up a few weeks ago, so that is obviously very fresh in EA Sports FC 27’s ratings adjusters’ minds — clearly, World Cup performance improved some players’ stocks.
That is nowhere more apparent than in Lionel Messi’s rating. The Inter Miami and Argentina forward was arguably the best player on the pitch during the entire Cup, a remarkable feat at 39-years-old. The Inter Miami forward scored eight times as Argentina reached the final, where they lost to Spain.

However, he has appeared twice for Miami out of five total opportunities, and he has just recorded one assist. In his most recent outing, a 4-1 thrashing by Nashville, Messi had 11 shots and failed to score. He’s obviously a danger to any defender, but his 89 rating has drawn plenty of debate online given that his physical stats will naturally be on the decline.
Similarly, Lamine Yamal might be a bit high, but for the opposite reason. Yamal was relatively quiet at the World Cup, so his 90 rating can be considered very generous, even if he did lift the trophy. Still just 19, he will have plenty of games in the upcoming season to justify his status as one of the best players in the world.
There aren’t any other egregious ratings on first glance. However, Virgil van Dijk still being an 88 is perhaps a little too kind, given he has lost some of his pace; the Liverpool defender is still one of the finest on the planet but, much like Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois — who is rated 90 — some of these ratings are down to reputation rather than current ability.
