Every new Pokemon expansion set has its own valuable chase cards, and Journey Together certainly won’t be an exception to this rule. We’ve put together a list of the biggest potential chase cards to look out for when Journey Together arrives for Pokemon TCG.
The Scarlet and Violet: Journey Together set heralds the return of Trainers’ Pokemon at last. Previously named Owner’s Pokemon, the special edition cards feature a small image of the trainer in the corner of the art box or their appearance in a full art card. Pokemon has been teasing the arrival of trainer cards since the World Championship in August 2024. Because Japanese sets release earlier than English sets, fans have already gotten a peak at what’s to come by taking a look at the new Japanese release.
Reportedly, Battle Together has at least 28 additional art rares, special art rares, or other secret rares in the set. From the collection known thus far, some cards coming to Journey Together stand out above the rest.
Chase cards can be hard to predict, but Battle Partners offers some insights as to what fans can look forward to from Journey Together.
In a given set, chase cards are usually the most anticipated and desired pulls. Chase cards in Pokemon have stood out in recent years for their illustrated full art designs rather than box art. They typically possess a high degree of rarity as well as unique design properties that make them good collector’s items. Some TCG players specifically look for the best cards for battling, as well. Recent chase cards include the Pikachu ex special art rare from Surging Sparks and the terastallized Umbreon ex special art rare from Prismatic Evolutions.
As is to be expected, many fans are looking forward to the full art trainer cards from Journey Together. So far, Hop, Iono, and N have all received their own sets of Trainer Pokemon as well as an art rare or special art rare.
Lycanroc stands out in that it is both receiving an art rare card and is expected to be one of the most competitive cards from the Journey Together set. It uses a new type of energy called Spike Energy that places damage counters on the opposing Pokemon. The move Grabbing Fangs then deals significantly more damage once Spike Energy has been attached, making for potent combo potential.
Although she is one of the main featured trainers in the set, Lillie’s art rare card has not yet been revealed. Her card will likely feature her signature Pokemon Clefairy. The Battle Partners set comes out in Japan on January 25, 2025. Either before or by then, fans around the world will be able to get a good look at all of the art rare cards and better understand which will stand out as the set’s hottest chase cards.
The Pokemon Company is releasing Journey Together set in the United States on March 28, 2025.
The Journey Together Elite Trainer box contains 11 booster packs, two different full art N’s Zorua cards, and more. Fans can also get smaller sets containing different highlighted cards. Fans can also expect to have over 200 potential pull options instead of Battle Partner’s mere 128. While all of the Japanese cards will make it into the English set, the rest of the cards will come from ex Starter Deck Generations.
Fans looking to get their hands on the set should prepare themselves for a difficult time. The latest box, Prismatic Evolutions, has made news for the plethora of scalpers buying up stock. These have been selling for significantly above the market price due to high demand. At the same time, those who have opened contained packs so far note an abysmal pull rate.
Players hope that when Journey Together finally releases, fans can get at least one of their favorite chase cards. May the odds be ever in their favor.
