BetBoom Team puts Dota 2 team on hold, moves players to inactive
Esports organization BetBoom has put a hold on its Dota 2 esports project, making its entire roster inactive, and pausing its competition in the game.
BetBoom, who also compete in
Counter-Strike 2, have been a part of the Dota 2 ecosystem for over four years, first competing in 2022. However, after
an announcement today
(Oct. 2), the team will pause its efforts within the game, seemingly pledging to return.
BetBoom moves entire roster to enactive as it pauses its Dota 2 project
The pause and benching of the teams’ entire
Dota 2
roster comes after months of what the organization describes as “results that do not align with our ambitions.” That is to say, the organization last won a tournament in April of this year, falling down the rankings from being one of the best teams in the world, and now has had two last-place finishes.
This decline in results comes after a dramatic series of roster moves following a fourth-place finish at
The International 2026. Those changes saw Danil “gpk” Skutin leave, and captain and support player Vitalie “Save-” Melnic move to mid, with Georgii “swedenstrong” Zainalabidov joining the lineup.
However, after poor results at
BLAST SLAM VIII
and
PARI Universe, the BetBoom org have had enough is enough, and hit pause on the project.
While this may just be a case of an organization looking to fully rebuild its roster, there’s wider issues to consider as well. Over the past year, gambling sponsors within Dota 2 have reportedly reduced their spend. Multiple reasons can be cited for this decrease, from the wake of an expansion of alternative sponsors including
prediction markets,
to the all out
blanket ban on gambling sponsors at TI15
in China this year.
Without solid results, the investment that comes with a team might not be worth it. Especially when the field is crowded in the Dota 2 gambling sponsor market (1win, PARIVISION, Aurora, are all gambling sponsor owned, and teams like Yandex and Team Spirit have gambling sponsors).
Still, for the players, this appears to be a speedbump, rather than the end of the road for this roster. Luka “Lukawa” Nasuashvili, manager for the BetBoom Team roster (and seemingly also out of a job as well),
posted on Telegram
that the majority of the former players would be competing under the name Do Konca in upcoming tournaments.
That roster will feature the following lineup:
- Ilya “Kiritych” Ulyanov
- Gleb “kiyotaka” Zyryanov
- Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin
- Vitalie “Save-” Melnic
- Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov

BLAST SLAM VIII Finals predictions and preview
Michael Hassall
It’s been a long road, but after a strangely-formatted group stage, and a decidedly anticlimactic playoffs, we’re down to the final three teams in BLAST SLAM VIII. The finals are today (Oct. 11) and we’ll see the premier teams in Dota 2 clash. Perhaps disappointingly, we’re not seeing a new wave of top-teams at the pinnacle of Dota 2 competition, with the three final teams being the same trio we’ve ...

After a week of intense Group Stage, Last Chance and Seeding stage matches, and a few days of rest, BLAST SLAM VIII returns tomorrow (Oct. 8) with the Playoffs. If we’re honest, there haven’t been too many surprises. Dota 2’s new Tidehunter Arcana is mind-blowing, but prepare to spend $200+ to get it
Michael Hassall
Night owls in North America and early risers in Europe woke up to a brand new Dota 2 Arcana, the first new release of Dota’s rarest and most-coveted cosmetics since 2024. The recipient? Tidehunter, whose Maw of the Megladon Arcana transforms the already selachian sea-dweller into a full-blown shark. But while Arcana’s have traditionally been part of big events in Dota 2, either the now-discontinued Battle Passes, or most recently, ...
