The best way to play the new & ambitious Steamrunners slot
The new Steamrunners slot dives into the popular steampunk genre, delivering an enjoyable experience to players with its striking visuals and the potential for some big wins, and our guide can help bettors understand the best way to play the game and what to watch out for.
The steampunk genre has become very popular over the years, giving rise to multiple games, slots, and other pieces of media inspired by its retro-futurism. Developer Hacksaw Gaming is the latest to dip its hands in this well with the new Steamrunners slot, which brings players to a floating city filled with airships, complex machinery, and the feel of creation as one would expect from a game with a steampunk theme.
The best way to play and win on the Steamrunners slot
The best way for players to increase their chances of finding a win on the Steamrunners slot is by utilizing its three free spins modes to stack up multipliers with high-value wild and gas canisters symbols.
The slot plays on a 5×4 grid with 14 fixed paylines, which is fairly common for the developer’s other recent slots. It has an RTP of 96.32%, which is fairly typical, and a medium volatility that means that players can expect a mix of smaller wins with some occasional heavier hits. This moderate volatility helps to keep things exciting, with a reasonable number spins yielding at least some results whether big or small.

The player’s initial bet can go as low as 10 cents or as high as $100, letting casual players who typically prefer making small bets enjoy the slot just as much as high-rolling bettors. Considering the max win is 10,000x the base bet amount, even a small upfront can yield great results, though those looking for a major jackpot will likely want to aim a little higher than just a few cents.
Steamrunners primarily relies on its gas canister symbols for the game’s larger wins. These symbols trigger spread effects when rolled. Green canisters turn adjacent symbols into wild symbols when they’re part of a win, while purple ones affect the entire grid to assign random multipliers of up to 200x. These wilds then add together before the final payout is determined, making them crucial for those looking to see some high numbers on their screens.
Bonus games can increase the chances of winning big significantly, though they’re determined through luck. Those who are more eager for their big break could utilize the bonus buy option to increase the chances of triggering a bonus or to guarantee at least one gas canister symbol being featured every spin. That’s likely the best way to play the slot for those looking to spike a big win, but it comes with greater risk given the higher buy-in price.
How the Steamrunners free spins and bonus rounds work
While the Steamrunners slot’s gameplay primarily revolves around its wilds and gas canister symbols, its three distinct free spins bonus rounds can take things to the next level. Steamrunners has two regular bonus rounds and a hidden one.
- Sky City requires players to land three FS scatter symbols in the bonus game. It gives players eight free spins with sticky wild multipliers, increasing the chances of getting higher multipliers by the time the bonus round ends.
- Gaslight District is triggered by rolling four FS scatter symbols. This bonus round gives players ten free spins with the same sticky wild multipliers as Sky City. It also guarantees at least one wild symbol on every spin.
- The secret bonus round is Court of the High Steam, which requires at least five FS scatter symbols. This bonus round drastically increases the chances of success by guaranteeing at least one gas canister symbol in all of the ten free spins players get.

One exciting thing about Steamrunners’ bonus games is that they cause wild symbols to double every time they’re affected by an activated gas canister symbol. The maximum multiplier one symbol can reach is 5,000, which is more likely to happen if you roll two or three scatter symbols during any of the three bonus rounds to get two or four additional free spins, respectively.
All in all, Steamrunners is a visual feast with the interesting features players can typically expect from a game developed by Hacksaw. It takes inspiration from long-standing steampunk tropes and merges them with modern themes to deliver what is a great pick for players who want something new from their slots experience.
