Players who want to get Mythic Essence in League of Legends may need to start turning their attention to the new Sanctum mechanic, as it could be the best way to gather this precious resource.
Mythic Essence is one of several currencies in League of Legends that can unlock numerous rare in-game items. Previously, players could earn these points in multiple ways. These included opening hextech and masterwork chests, gaining event pass rewards, and leveling up. But with Riot’s controversial recommitment to exclusivity in the game, Mythic Essence has become more difficult to get.
Starting in 2025, these are the best way for players to get their hands on Mythic Essence in League of Legends.
Currently, the main way to get Mythic Essence in LoL is by rolling in the Sanctum.
Riot introduced the Sanctum to League of Legends in patch 14.24 as a means of acquiring new and rare skins like Exalted Arcane Fractured Jinx. It essentially relies on gacha mechanics to pull one of several different prizes in the hopes of hitting the jackpot rather than just being able to directly purchase the desired item. Each spin costs one Ancient Spark, or 400 RP.
Fortunately for those seeking Mythic Essence, players have the highest odds of winning that currency. Mythic Essence is a B-tier good and comes with an 89.5% likelihood of pulling, the same category as random emotes or icons. Players can get somewhere between 5-100 Mythic Essence from a random spin in the Sanctum. What’s more, rather than enabling players to reroll for items, the system will reward an additional amount of Mythic Essence.
The introduction of the Sanctum corresponds with other major game changes. In the new seasonal pass model, only the most expensive pass will contain 25 Mythic Essence as a reward. Additionally, players will no longer be able to buy Masterwork chests post-January 2025. It is still unclear as to whether or not leveling up past 150 will grant Mythic Essence.
Mythic Essence can be spent in the Mythic shop for exclusive and returning rare in-game items in LoL.
The Mythic Shop features a rotating collection of skins and other cosmetics, both new or returning. Approximately once a month, Riot changes out what is available in the shop to encourage those interested to act immediately or risk losing the chance to get the items they want for the foreseeable future. Players can access the shop through the Loot tab in the LoL client. Traditional offerings include:
In the new year, Riot intends to update their mythic shop schedule and add more content for purchasing. While not including any Limited or Collector’s edition items, players can expect to see more Legacy skins. Most League of Legends skins in the mythic shop cost between 100 and 200 Mythic Essence, meaning that players may need to expect a lot more grinding in the Sanctum in 2025.
In making Mythic Essence potentially harder to get or just more expensive, Riot is retroactively boosting the exclusivity of its past skins as well as their future ones. Hopefully, this extra new change won’t make fans even angrier over the Sanctum than they already are.
