Lan Yan is shaping up to be one of Genshin Impact’s strongest four-star units, and here’s how to maximize her potential with the best build from weapons and teams to artifacts.
Genshin Impact is circling back to Chenyu Vale with the release of Lan Yan. She is a new four-star Anemo support character whose kit does not stray too far from the existing Anemo units. She serves as a shielder, buffer, and on-field driver in swirl and hypercarry setups, and many players already agree that she’s one of the best free-to-play picks in her niche.

No character, whether four- or five-star, can reach their peak without the right build. Here are the best artifact, weapon, and team choices for Lan Yan in Genshin Impact.
The best artifact builds for Lan Yan in Genshin Impact are Viridescent Venerer, Scroll of Hinder City and Noblesse Oblige.
Viridescent Venerer is a staple for most, if not all, Anemo supports in the game and is the go-to set for many team compositions. It boosts Lan Yan’s personal damage across her elemental skill, elemental burst, swirls, and normal attacks. On top of that, it reduces enemies’ resistance to the element infused by her attacks.
Lan Yan may not be a Natlan character, but she can still make use of the Scroll of Hero of the Cinder City, even if not to its full potential. Its four-piece set grants a 12% elemental damage bonus upon triggering any reaction. This set can perform exceptionally well in teams with an Anemo carry such as Xiao or Wanderer.
Noblesse Oblige is another viable artifact set for many supports including Lan Yan, provided she has enough energy regeneration to use her elemental burst every rotation. Upon activating her ultimate, she grants an ATK% boost to all teammates, including herself, for 12 seconds. Keep in mind that players should only use this set if no one else on the team is already equipped with a four-piece Noblesse Oblige, as its effects do not stack. Additionally, it’s best suited for teams with an attack-scaling DPS like Xiao, Wanderer, or Arlecchino.
The best weapons for Lan Yan are Starcaller’s Watch, Hakushin Ring, Thrilling Tales of the Dragon Slayer, Wandering Evenstar and Sacrificial Fragments.
Lan Yan scales off both attack and elemental mastery, making Citlali’s signature weapon a viable option for her. It’s a catalyst with a relatively good base attack and elemental mastery. When Lan Yan creates a shield, she gains the Mirror of Night effect, which increases the on-field character’s damage dealt by 28%.
The Hakushin Ring also works well with Lan Yan. It provides energy recharge to help meet her energy regeneration requirements and grants a damage buff in teams that trigger Electro reactions.
Thrilling Tales of the Dragon Slayer is a weapon that’s usable by both veterans and new players alike. It may only be a three-star weapon, but it’s a great one to pick for players looking to buff their attack-scaling DPS. Upon switching, the next character will receive a 24-48% increase in their attack stats.
Wandering Evenstar can only be used if Lan Yan is built for elemental mastery. When equipped, Lan Yan converts some of her EM into an attack buff that all party members can receive.
Sacrificial Fragment performs well in teams where Lan Yan is the main DPS or driver, or in swirl teams. This catalyst provides elemental mastery, which increases swirl damage or the damage dealt by her attacks provided her A1 is activated. Sacrificial Fragment also allows players to use her elemental skill twice, doubling the duration of her shield.
Lan Yan works well in various team compositions, including swirl, hypercarry, and elemental reaction setups. Like other Anemo supports in Genshin Impact, she rarely has trouble fitting into an otherwise strong team.
One of Genshin Impact’s hard-hitting DPS units, Arlecchino benefits from a versatile Anemo support to amplify her damage output.
With this setup, the goal is to pile on buffs and damage boosts for Arlecchino. Lan Yan provides extra buffs through her artifacts and keeps her safe with a shield, which is crucial since Arlecchino can’t be healed by others. Yelan then doubles Arlecchino’s damage through vaporize. Finally, bring in Bennett for the flat ATK boost and Pyro Resonance. The extra ATK doesn’t just mean more damage for Arlecchino; it also helps Lan Yan generate stronger shields.
In a typical team composition, Lan Yan works well with a hypercarry DPS, an anemo support, a sub-DPS, and buffers.
One of the most effective setups is the Neuvillete hypercarry composition. Lan Yan enhances Neuvillette and Furina’s damage by swirling hydro and applying Viridescent Venerer and TTDS buff. Her shield also ensures Neuvillette’s charged attacks remain uninterrupted. Round out the team by adding Furina and Xilonen, who can contribute off-field damage, damage buffs, resistance shred, and healing.
Lan Yan’s kit also meshes well with Anemo main DPSs such as Xiao to help him ramp up his damage.
She can wield Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayer, Scroll of the Hero of the Cinder City, and Noblesse Oblige, which makes her a reasonable pair for him. On top of that, her ability to generate particles helps lower Xiao’s high energy needs. One drawback though is that while she can replace Zhongli and perform just fine, her shield does not last long enough to protect Xiao for the entire duration of his burst. Finally, slot in Furina for extra off-field damage and fanfare buffs, and Xianyun for plunge attack damage boosts and team-wide healing.
In Genshin Impact, several four-star units can be just as effective as five-star ones when built properly. For players looking for free-to-play team compositions for Lan Yan, a taser comp with Xingqiu, Ororon, and Fischl is worth considering.
Fischl, Ororon, and Xingqiu are three sub-DPS units that can inflict damage off-field through their elemental skills and bursts. To cast their attacks, Lan Yan can serve as the team’s driver and damage buffer. This setup can struggle with sustain, as Lan Yan lacks healing and her shield offers only brief protection against incoming damage.
