League Classic sees the return of League of Legends Season 3, but which champions were deemed the best during that time?

League of Legends has gone through a lot of changes since it first came out. While the map and item-related changes naturally impacted the game’s state, so did the many champion nerfs, buffs, and reworks. Multiple champions played completely differently in Season 3 than they do now.

Since League Classic lets players reexperience how League of Legends used to be, players will quickly discover that many champions are in their old states. This brings the question of which champions are the best for every role in League Classic.

Best top lane champions in League Classic

Jax in League Classic

Jax is one of the best top lane picks in League Classic thanks to his scaling and his synergy with items like Atma’s Impaler and older versions of Trinity Force. After he has his core items, he becomes a powerful split-pusher who can pressure side lanes on his own.

Another excellent pick is Fiora, thanks to the restoration of her old ultimate, Blade Waltz. She becomes untargetable when activating, dashing between enemies to land 5 strikes that opponents can’t block or interrupt, letting her bypass armored frontlines to dismantle fragile damage dealers. She deals huge area damage while healing if she has Ravenous Hydra, an item that applies cleave and life steal on every strike.

Lee Sin in League Classic

Lee Sin utilizes his high mobility and base damage to secure early leads for his laners. The return of Wriggle’s Lantern provides efficient clearing and free warding, which synergize perfectly with his ward-jumping abilities.

Utility tank junglers like Amumu and Rammus are extremely strong picks in League Classic. Their simple but strong engagement tools, combined with the gold efficiency of tank items like Warmog’s Armor and Sunfire Cape, make them incredibly powerful for mid-to-late game teamfights.

Best mid-lane champions in League Classic

Kassadin in League Classic

Kassadin has always been an extremely powerful option for mid due to his kit that lets him bypass wards, assassinate the enemy backline, and safely escape, alongside incredible roaming potential and late-game scaling. Ahri is dependent on the raw burst of old itemization, while Katarina uses her ability resets and AoE damage to wipe teams during smaller fights.

Off-meta picks are great too, such as AP Master Yi, which turns Alpha Strike into a burst mechanic that can shred waves and health while Meditate heals him through trades. Nidalee’s pre-rework Javelin Toss, which scales based on distance, can force squishies out of lane and into disadvantageous positions.

Best bot lane champions in League Classic

Ezreal in League Classic

The ADC role favors late-game scaling, making Ezreal and Vayne defining picks. Ezreal is an extremely safe pick, and his synergy with Iceborn Gauntlet and the older Trinity Force keeps his damage consistent while he stays hard to catch.

Vayne is a powerful hypercarry, capable of shredding tanks and staying safe through Phantom Dancer. Another good option is Urgot, who works as a ranged bruiser whose Corrosive Charge lets Acid Hunter lock in from 1200 range, while pre-rework Graves bursts targets down with Quickdraw and into point-blank Buckshot and Collateral Damage.

Best support champions in League Classic

Blitzcrank in League Classic

Leona and Blitzcrank are the best support options thanks to their incredible crowd control. The return of permanent Oracle’s Elixirs makes vision denial a core support responsibility, so champions who can force engagements in unwarded areas provide immense value.

Leona’s chain crowd control can secure kills in fights, locking enemies in place long enough for her partner to capitalize. Blitzcrank’s hook isolates a single target and instantly switches lane control, pulling an unsuspecting opponent out of position to start a fight with an advantage. Together, they reward aggressive, vision-controlling play and punish any small mistakes.
