Dead Reckoning will end soon, and all those awesome Day of the Dead skins will likely go with it.

Dota 2 does its best to make new heroes exciting, and in the case of Muerta, Valve put together an entire event to celebrate her arrival. The Dead Reckoning update came with a fun minigame that pits players in a personal duel against a member of the enemy team. Kills and assists against that player rack up points, which convert to free skin cases every couple of matches. If you’re curious about when the Dead Reckoning event will end, here’s the confirmed date and what will happen to its swanky cosmetics.

The Dota 2 Dead Reckoning event will end on April 4, 2023. That leaves about two weeks left to collect flowers and earn Dead Reckoning chests. The event is always turned on for every player, so there’s no need to opt in. Simply playing the game is enough to earn chests. It’s also possible to lose the match but still win your personal duel, earning four flowers. A tie grants four flowers to both players, which is a nice touch by Valve.

However, it may be important to open the chests before the Dead Reckoning event’s April 4 end date. Keys are available for either $2.49 in the in-game client or 20,000 Dota Plus shards. The shards are obviously preferable, but both options may be removed when the event ends. With that in mind, open chests as soon as you get them to maximize your rewards.

What will happen to the Dead Reckoning skins when it ends?

The Dota 2 skins added in the Dead Reckoning event are not tradable or marketable, so the only way to get them is to play during the event and open chests.

Some of the skins are particularly desirable, such as the new Expired Gun Sniper and Dead Heat Lina. However, the skins also have an internal rarity that makes some harder to get than others. The top of the tower has a new version of the Toy Butcher Pudge persona and a Mesoamerican-themed Io, bringing the wisp’s total number of skins up to two. Players can trade up five skins of the same rarity to get a random pull from the higher tier. That system is likely to go away at the end of Dead Reckoning, so open your chests and trade up now if you plan to get them.
